Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), derived from sugar cane. One of the most potent exfoliators available, glycolic acid is actually the smallest sized molecule of all the AHAs, meaning it’s easier for it to penetrate skin – that’s why it often has a more tingly sensation too. It works by speeding up cell turnover and helping dissolve the bonds that hold skin cells together, allowing the dead cells to be sloughed off more easily. It’s also known for supporting with collagen production too.
